2009 NSW Premier League Champions Sutherland Sharks have added two new recruits to its player roster for 2010 with attackers Benjamin Vidaic and Steve McConologue joining the Shire based club.
Vidaic is well known to many in the NSW Premier League as he has played senior football for both Sydney United and more recently Marconi Stallions. The 21-year-old was a former Sutherland Sharks youth product before moving off to the Blacktown City Demons but was delighted to be once again playing with the Shire side. The big 6 foot 4 striker will add much needed steel to the Sharks attack after losing 2009 Gold Medal Winner Bradley Boardman to the Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
Linking up with Vidaic up-front will be Scotsman Steve McConologue.
The former Scottish Schoolboys star played in the Scottish Third Division for Stranraer F.C. before coming to Australia where he met up with close friend and Sharks tough midfielder Neil Jablonksi.
January Clinic For Girls and Boys (Age 6 to 16) at Seymour Shaw Stadium. The Committee of the “Sharks” take this opportunity to wish its players, suporters and sponsors a very merry christmas and a happy new year. To all our players enjoy the off season and take it easy on the plum pudding. We are looking forward to working with you again in the new year in preparation for what will be a exciting 2010 season.
The first Sharks Scholarship trip to the Ipswich Town Academy with General Manager George Hurley taking Daniel Crisante and Patrick Savor to Ipswich Town was a very successful venture with the two boys fitting into the routine of professional football very well a quickly making an impression on Academy staff. The boys put in over 120 hours of training playing and education while also rooming with other aspiring footballers living and breathing football for the month they were away plus meeting with new Manager former Manchester Utd. and Ireland Captain Roy Keane. The reports I personally received from their coach and former Arsenal player Chris Kiyombia and Academy Manager Sammy Morgan were very positive and the boys progress will be followed closely over the next couple of years. Due to changes in senior staff since my last visit in 2008 with Simon Clegg CEO , Roy Keane Manager , and Sammy Morgan Academy Manager all coming into the club, it was important to confirm our ongoing relationship with Ipswich town and this was made easier by the performance of our two boys at the academy. I met with CEO Simon Clegg at Portland Road to discuss the future relationship between our two clubs and after looking at our clubs achievements, growth over the past few years and plans for the future, he was more than happy to personally put in place a formal agreement that will see two boys attending the Academy through the Scholarship Foundation each year.
Simon Clegg was impressed with the Shires potential with such a large junior nursery and very pleased to see a copy of the Development and Identification Structure that has been drafted to allow a pathway to the Sharks Academy then into the senior squad and beyond for all junior players throughout the Shire. The Draft Development and Identification Structure has been presented to the Junior association and Sutherland Shire Coaches association for review and discussion, and after the positive input at a recent meeting I am sure we can work around minor issues, establish a structure to suit the Shire and build on the good work the Coaches Association have established over the past few years. It is just a question of how many players can we produce from the Shire that eventually play for the Sharks or at a higher level.
George Hurley also met with Norwich FC through CEO David McNally and an arrangement has been made for a 15 year old Youth player to attend Norwich FC on a two week trial in late July 2010. This is yet another acknowledgement of the Sharks success as a club and the high regard in which they are held o`seas.

FOLLOWING THE ATTENDANCE OF OUR TWO YOUTH SQUAD MEMBERS DANIEL CRISANTE AND PATRICK SAVOR AT THE IPSWICH ACADEMY FOR A MONTH OF TRAINING AND EDUCATION ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN FORMALISED AFTER GEORGE HURLEY MET WITH THE NEW IPSWICH FOOTBALL CLUB C.E.O. SIMON CLEGG IN LATE OCTOBER.
THIS WILL MEAN THAT AN ASSESSMENT PROCESS SIMILAR TO LAST YEARS WILL TAKE PLACE AFTER EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST ARE LODGED BY MEMBERS OF SOME RESTRICTED AGE GROUPS.
THE IPSWICH COACHING STAFF AND ADMINISTRATION WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF OUR TWO BOYS AND WILL KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THEIR PROGRESS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS.
FOLLOWING ON FROM THE IPSWICH TOWN FC ARRANGEMENTS GEORGE HURLEY HAD FURTHER TALKS WITH NORWICH FOOTBALL CLUB AND HAS OBTAINED AN AGREEMENT THAT WILL SEE A BOY OF SUITABLE SKILL AND POTENTIAL ATTEND THE NORWICH ACADEMY FOR A TWO WEEK TRIAL AROUND THE JULY PERIOD PRIOR TO THE UK SEASON STARTING. THEY HAVE REQUESTED THE BOY BE IN THE AGE GROUP BORN AFTER SEPT:1ST 1993 TO JULY 1994. (This detail to be confirmed).
SUTHERLANDSHARKS ARE OFFICIALLY THE BEST TEAM IN THE NSW PREMIER LEAGUE AFTER A RESOUNDING 4-1 WIN OVER MARCONI AT PENRITH STADIUM. FINISHING IN SECOND POSITION IN THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ALSO SHOWS THE DEPTH THE CLUB HAVE THRIUGH THE JUNIOR RANKS.
ALSO PLAYING IN THE GRANDFINALS AT PENRITH IN THE LEAD UP GAMES WERE OUR U/11 AND U/12 SQUADS AND THE 14S HAD PLAYED AT ANOTHER VENUE.
AFTER LOSING OUR COACH AND AT LEAST FIVE FIRST GRADE PLAYERS FROM LAST YEARS BEATON GRANDFINAL SQUAD THE POWERS TO BE THROUGHOUT NSW FOOTBALL GAVE THE SHARKS LITTLE CHANCE OF REACHING ANOTHER GRANDFINAL AND NO CHANCE OF WINNING IT. ADDING TO THIS THE PRE -SEASON CHARITY CUP WIN FOLLOWED BY THE HIGH PROFILE NSW TIGER TURF CUP WIN EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS AND THE 2009 SEASON WILL BE RECORDED AS THE BEST EVER SEASON IN THE 70 YEARS SINCE THE CLUB WAS FOUNDED AND SOMETHING THE SHIRE CAN ALLWAYS BE PROUD OF IN THE YEARS TO COME.
