THE SHARKS PROGRESSED TO THE LAST FOUR WITH A WIN OVER THIRD PLACED PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB BANKSTOWN LAST NIGHT.  SCORING FROM A BRILLIANT FREE KICK RIGHT ON HALF TIME THE SHARKS WENT INTO THE DRESSING ROOMS FEELING CONFIDENT AFTER PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL AND HOLDING THE VERY SKILLED FORWARDS OF BANKSTOWN OUT EVEN THOUGH WE HAD A FEW CLOSE SHAVES.

THE SECOND HALF OPENED BRIGHTLY BUT BANKSTOWN WERE GETTING ON TOP WITH THE SHARKS LOSING MIDFIELD AND SLOWLY RETREATING INTO THERE OWN HALF WHEN OUT OF THE BLUE ATHE SHARKS PUT ON BRILLIANT MOVE STARTING IN THERE OWN HALF SAW THE BALL MOVE DOWN THE LEFT PASSING THROUGH FOUR OR FIVE PLAYERS WITH A GREAT SQUARE BALL ACROSS THE FACE OF GOAL AND FINISHED OFF INTO THE ROOF OF THE NET.  2-0

FROM THEN ON BANKSTOWN ATTACKED AND WITH SUTHERLAND MAKING IT EASIER FOR THEM DROPPING BACK INTO THE DEFENDING QUARTER OF THE FIELD BANKSTOWN FINALLY SCORED TEN MINUTES FROM TIME AND WHAT A FIAL TEN MINUTES THIS WAS WITH EVEN BANKSTOWNS GOALKEEPER PLAYING UP IN THE SHARKS HALF OF THE FIELD AND MAKING RUNS DOWN THE RIGHT WING.  THE SHARKS HELD ON TO RECORD A WELL DESERVED WIN AGAINST A VERY STRONG SIDE AND NOW PROGRESS INTO THE SEMI FINAL STAGE.  HAVING ALLREADY BEATEN MARCONI WHO ARE CURRENLY FOURTH IN THE TABLE AND NOW THE THIRD PLACED CLUB THE SHARKS HAVE A VERY GOOD CHANCE OF TAKING OUT THE CUP IN 2009.

Kyle Stuart Newcastle Jets Offer

June 24th, 2009

Sharks under 20s squad member Kyle Stuart has been offered a trial for the 2009/2010 Newcastle Jets National Youth League Squad.

We wish Kyle the best of luck over the coming months if he decides to take up the offer and we are all sure he will do credit to himself and the Sutherland Sharks Club.

Kyle follows in the steps of Brendan Gan who was offered a Sydney FC contract for 2009 and quickly forced his way into the A League squad.

Sharks back on track

June 24th, 2009

Sutherland Sharks confirmed they are not going to be pushed out of the top 4 easily with a disciplined performance against Wollongong Wolves last Saturday night.  The 3-0 winning score could have been greater if not for the Wolves goalkeeper who playing against his former club was in good form.

Brad Boardman showed why he is recognised as one of the best strikers in the Premier League scoring two of the three goals and keeping the wolves defence busy all evening. Coach Robbie Stanton had worked the boys hard and reminded them that this is a ninety minute game and they responded well making a tough game look easy and finishing with a clean sheet.

The Sharks have a busy schedule over the coming week with a Tiger Turf Cup quarter final against Bankstown tonight at 7pm.   Premier League fixture against Marconi at Toyota Park 4pm Saturday then host SYDNEY FC at SEYMOUR Shaw 7pm 1st JULY 7pm.

Sutherland Sharks are the only Premier League Club to have beaten Sydney FC in these pre season matches and with Brendam Gan having a new role after being a Sharks player in our 2008 win, now entrenched in Sydney FC first grade squad he will want to shine against his old club next wednesday.

BEN SPRUCE IS BACK FROM INJURY

June 17th, 2009

We welcome Ben Spruce back into the Sharks team after taking one of those horror tackles some seven weeks ago. It looked as though Ben would be out for the season as he lay on the turf in agony, but showing the same grit and deterination he does in his football matches he is back and quickly reminded us of how good a footballer he is. His favourite position is left back but this does not restrict Ben from scoring goals and providing opportunities for team members.

Ben is a local player who is a role model for our young talent throughout the Shire and he is a resident in Miranda.    Bens career achievements are not widely known but are impressive becoming a regular first grade player at 18 years of age representing NASW Schoolboys 04-05 and then touringEngland with the 2005 Australian Schoolboys and selected as best player on tour.

Ben is the true Shire boy staying with the Sharks when he must have been tempted by offers, and was rewarded last year by being an important part of the Sharks Minor Premiership success. Bens ambitions include an A League contract and playing professionally o`seas.  I will be talking to UK clubs in October while away with our two Academy Football Scholarship boys and will be showcasing Bens Player Profile in an effort to getting him recognised as the brillaint plyer he is and worthy of a trial.     Playing Hard and Having Fun is Bens ambition in life.  Best of luck Ben and you are a pleasure to watch.
