The Sutherland Sharks Football Club have been playing an competing in the highest competition NSW has to offer the National Premier League 1.
To get to the top tier its all about building on the fantastic player base and talent that surrounds Seymour Shaw Stadium .
While the club is the home of NPL football in the Shire we want to make sure that football of all levels is nurtured and built upon for years to come. The Sharks have grown its junior and youth base and sees this as a key area and where football all begins. This shows with the football pathway that the club has created through each of its football Academies and programs each built to give the players what they need to reach the next level.
DID YOU KNOW?
At the Sharks no matter what age or skill level you are at as a player there is always a program for you. Each step on the clubs pathway is built specifically to build on the players current ability and help lift that to take the next step. Each program is built to fit and follow clear FFA, FNSW and club curriculum that has been designed and based on what players needs are.
Our coaching staff within each of these programs are all fully trained, certfified or have or are currently playing at the highest level of football and understand the training needed and how each player develops. Each program is also overseen by our coaching staff and football commitee to ensure that its working and what we are doing leads to an improvement in each player.
WHERE DOES IT START?
The Sharkies are our U3 - U5 pre school kids that come to Seymour Shaw and get a chance to play some fun basic games and are designed for each child to enjoy with a ball at their feet. Its not just about the football but a chance for kids to get outdoors , socially interact and have some fun . Our Sharkies program is run by one of senior coaches and you can join anytime.
Sessions run Mon - Fri based on availabilty at Seymour Shaw after you drop the older kids at school then bring the youngest for some excercise.
If you would like to enquire about this program then please email your interest to firstname.lastname@example.org and see what its all about.
From our Sharkies we then move into several programs -
SKILLS ACADMEY (SSA)
Skills Acadmey for players aged U6 through to U13, you would see these players in white uniforms at Seymour Shaw training at the same times as our SDS squads. The Skills Acadmey is open to any player that wants to come down and improve their skills or prepare for their own club season. The curriculum followed is the same but designed to meet the players capabilites and skill level.
The sessions are Mon & Fri afternoons and you can come down on the day partcipate in a session and see if its for you. You can enrol for a full term or session by session.
DEVELOPMENT SQUAD (SDS)
The SDS is based on those boys that are on the cusp of making the SAP program and is a trial based selection squad. Our SDS squads start at U7 and flow through to U12. You will see these boys at Seymour Shaw in navy blue tops and black shorts. The program follows that of our SAP program but can be taken at the required pace that is set by our coaches and not on the SAP program. The idea of SDS is for the boys to get the same training as SAP and be identified by our current SAP coaches as an opportunity for slection throughout the year or next season.
Our SDS boys throughout the year may play our SAP squads or get the opportunity to train along side some of the boys to see the pathway provided.
SKILLS AQUISITION PROGRAM (SAP)
The SAP is set out by the FFA and FNSW and follows a strict training regime and program for all the players and coaches. It is a commitment of 3 training sesisons a week with a game day on the weekend. At the SAP level players no longer play with their local club but are registered to the Sutherland Sharks themselves and play other SAP squads.
SAP runs from U9 - U12 and is coached by fully certfiied coaches who have been around or involved with football for years.
The Sutherland Sharks pathway is very clear and gives each player an opportunity to learn and grow as a player within our environment. While the player is also involved in the club it gives our coaches from each program the opportunity to communicate and see each player and give them the opportunity to step up a level or have the opportunity to train with the next group up. The idea is that our SSA become the next group of SDS and our SDS become the next SAP players, with the overall goal of reaching the NPL. While not all players may want to go this far thats ok too as that is why each program is built with this in mind and allows for that to happen.
While there are plenty of player programs out there the Sutherland Sharks have not forgotten about those specialised positions, especially the goalkeepers. The Sharks proudly partner with Saved Goalkeeping to ensure that all our GK's out there get the same high level training required to take it to the next level.
The program is run by Nathan Denham long time Sharks NPL goalkepper and club captian for many years. With his love of the club and the art of goalkeeping the Sharks and Saved Goalkeeping is proud to have one of the best programs running.
"SAVED Goalkeeping aims to provide high quality goalkeeper training regardless of gender, age or skill. Our passion is to see our keepers not just excel in their game, but also throughout their day-to-day lives"
