He's a great player, an outstanding clubman and just an amazing guy all round. Its been a privilege to have him at the club and we have been better for it.

Farewell Nathan Denham

Farewell Nathan Denham

To all Sharks past and present. I would like to take this opportunity to announce that at the end of this season I will retire from playing The Beautiful Game.

Playing the game of football has taken me on a wonderful journey that cannot be described in words. I have learnt so many life lessons along the way and have been blessed with amazing experiences that only football could provide. For 23 years I have given everything to every training session and match I played. I have been blessed to have had a career in the NSW Premier League for 13 seasons. 9 of those with my beloved Sutherland Sharks. Every time I stepped into those white posts I have given my all to defend them with pride, passion and honour.

I can honestly say at the end of my career that I have no regrets and I am very proud of the blood, sweat and tears that went into playing the game I love. Although my days of defending the goal may be over, I have a new passion in football, which is to coach, mentor, inspire and encourage the next generation of goalkeepers from our community and beyond to one day follow in my footsteps and perhaps go on to bigger and better things in the game of football. There are so many people who have been a part of this journey and it would be impossible to name them all.

So, I will summarise. To my family and friends, thank you for all your support. You have always backed me and supported my decisions to pursue a career in football. Thank you to my Mum and Dad for everything you sacrificed to allow me to play and enjoy my football. And for the support and advice you gave me on the way. Thank you to my wife Amanda, especially in your support with making the decision to retire. You have stood by my side through ups and downs and I thank you for that. There are so many coaches and staff that have shaped me as a player. Thank you to all of you for taking the time to coach and mentor me through my career.

I have graced the field with so many special people and I would like to thank every teammate past and present for their contribution to my playing career. To the fans for all their support through the good and bad times. Seeing the supporters in the stands brings that little more out of a player. I appreciate every one of you. It has been a privilege and an honour to defend the Sharks badge over 200 times. I look forward to the next chapter in my football journey. Finally, my advice to all players is to enjoy the game of football. No matter what level you achieve. It will give you some of the best experiences of your life.

God Bless You All,

Nathan Denham.
